Hyas Associates Ltd have been appointed by East Devon District Council to produce a masterplan for growth around Axminster. The site includes the route of the proposed Axminster Relief Road and related housing development following the successful bid for funding from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund to help deliver the project.
Hyas are leading a multi-disciplinary team to prepare the Axminster Masterplan working with Peter Brett Associates (PBA) on transport & engineering, and with Associates David Hawes providing urban design input and Russell Porter supporting with development surveying.
Hyas are working closely with the Council together with Persimmon Homes and the Crown Estate who control the majority of the allocated land. The masterplan will show how the relief road can be delivered alongside new homes, a primary school, employment space, community facilities, and open space as required in the Local Plan for East Devon. The masterplan will also detail how these various uses are distributed across the site and how key vehicle and pedestrian routes ensure that the development is integrated with the existing town.
A first consultation event on the masterplan will be held in Axminster in early July where there will be a workshop for key stakeholders followed by a public drop-in event for residents of the town to view the work to date.
Following this event Hyas will produce a draft masterplan over the summer with a further consultation event for residents to comment on the proposals planned for early September.
